Appalachian Community Relief is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the recovery and resilience of communities in the Appalachian region. Founded by locals in Black Mountain in response to Tropical Storm Helene, we continue to provide fresh produce, meat, dairy, shelf-stable, and household items weekly through our free client-choice grocery store.

Together We Can Sustain Our Community
In the wake of Helene, Appalachian Community Relief mobilized local volunteers to provide essential relief. Together, we've built a lifeline for our community through our free grocery store delivering food & supplies to those in need. We continue to serve 2800-3200 neighbors per month with full grocery carts and a warm community space.

From our beginning as a local driven effort to get supplies out to our neighbors after Tropical Storm Helene to our current day brick and mortar free grocery store and Hearth & Holler event space, community has been at the heart of our work. Ongoing Needs
Since our inception, we've provided full grocery carts to nearly 100,000 neighbors, given away hundreds of thousands of pounds of food, and diverting tens of thousands of pounds of food waste. Continuing this critical work requires significant financial resources to run our operations, retain staff, and most importantly purchase food for our shoppers. Every dollar donated can provided 3 meals for a neighbor and goes a long way to helping us continue the work we do. We greatly appreciate your support! Donations are tax deductible.
